UNITED STATES, AUG 21 – ESPN aims to attract cord cutters with a $29.95 monthly fee offering all ESPN networks and key NFL and WWE rights as traditional subscribers decline, Nielsen data shows streaming surpasses cable.

  • On Wednesday, ESPN announced its direct-to-consumer service and enhanced app will debut Aug. 21, coinciding with Disney’s quarterly earnings report.
  • As streaming overtook traditional TV, Nielsen noted usage surpassed broadcast and cable combined, and ESPN's household reach declined from nearly 100 million to 60 million.
  • Initially, around 25 million ESPN+ subscribers will migrate, and cord cutters can bundle ESPN unlimited with Disney+ and Hulu for $29.99/month.
  • Through the equity agreement, the NFL will receive a 10% stake in ESPN and control of NFL Redzone and NFL Fantasy.
  • Facing expiring deals, ESPN opted out of its $550 million MLB contract next year and seeks at least $120 million for Formula One rights starting in 2026.
