Police on Monday cracked down on coal miners who are on a hunger strike in Ankara, using tear gas and detaining union leaders as workers attempted to march to the energy ministry to demand unpaid wages, according to Turkish media reports.
TİP (Workers' Party of Turkey) Chairman Erkan Baş watched the Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe derby with the Doruk Mining workers who are continuing their resistance in Ankara. Baş said, "Tomorrow at 12:00 we will march to the Ministry of Energy, we expect all of you to support us."
