On 4 July, Equatorial Guinea filed a petition with the International Court of Justice concerning a private hotel located at Avenue Foch in Paris. Owned by Teodorin Nguema Obiang, son of the President of Equatorial Guinea and Vice-President of the country, it had been brought before the French courts in the context of an investigation into the fraudulently acquired fortunes of foreign leaders.
