The partnership enables Unity developers to publish games within Fortnite, expanding the platform that hosted 198,000 islands in 2024, doubling the previous year's count.
- At Unity's annual developer conference, Epic Games and Unity announced a partnership to make Unity games available in Fortnite sometime next year.
- Epic Games has grown its creator ecosystem by allowing publishing of `islands` since 2018, with 70,000 creators and 198,000 islands reported last year, doubling prior output.
- Unity's more than 1.2 million monthly active users could vastly expand Fortnite's creator and player reach, the cross-platform commerce dashboard allows developers to manage pricing and promotions, and Unity shares surged while Roblox fell over 6% on Wednesday.
- The companies said they will provide more details later, and Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, said the partnership will greatly expand the developer base and help developers reach bigger audiences.
