If Europe had generated the electricity generated by photovoltaics in gas power plants, costs of ten billion euros would have been incurred since the beginning of March. This was calculated by the industry association Solarpower Europe. Photovoltaics covered a total of 12.5 percent of Europe's electricity demand in 2025, according to Copernicus Climate Change Service.
