Emmerdale Star Recalls Being Hit over the Head by Handbag in Strange Fan Encounter
Christopher Coghill says the attack happened after his EastEnders role as Tony King, and he says viewers later praised his performance.
Emmerdale actor Christopher Coghill revealed he was once hit over the head with a handbag by a viewer during his 2008 portrayal of Tony King in EastEnders.
Coghill, who plays Kev Barton in Emmerdale, noted viewers occasionally struggle to distinguish between actors and their characters, describing his role as "a sympathetic psychopath, if you will."
William Ash, who plays Caleb Miligan, shared a similar experience with a fan criticizing his character's treatment of Moira, though he added, "People are genuinely generally really nice."
In a current Emmerdale storyline involving an attack on Billy Fletcher, Kev is the guilty party, though Caleb holds CCTV footage of the assault and intends to frame Joe Tate.
Off-Screen, Coghill expressed a desire to avoid further singing scenes for Kev, jokingly telling producer Laura Shaw he would only perform "All I Want For Christmas Is You" if kept until Christmas 2029.
