BMW Says Electric M3 Will Be a ‘New Level’ of Performance
BMW's electric M3 features a quad-motor layout with individual wheel control and over 100 kWh battery, promising racetrack-ready performance and innovative natural-fiber materials.
- This week BMW released photos of the electric M3 testing in snow and on camouflaged Nürburgring prototypes, built on the 800-volt Neue Klasse platform.
- BMW has been working on electric M tech since 2020, showing a 2022 i4-based quad-motor prototype and last year's Vision Driving Experience concept, while Franciscus van Meel said it aims to `take the BMW M driving experience to a new level`.
- BMW will equip the M3 with a quad-motor setup featuring one motor per wheel and simulated gear shifts, plus four Superbrain computers including Heart of Joy, and a 100-plus-kWh performance battery with upgraded cooling.
- Individual-Wheel control should boost traction and precision, while natural-fibre structural elements promise similar properties to carbon fibre with around 40 per cent less CO2e.
- BMW says we should learn more about the electric M3 throughout the year and it could even debut this year, while developing an M version of the iX3 and continuing the next-generation inline-6 M3.
