TRUCKEE, CA — Eight backcountry skiers were found dead Wednesday after an avalanche hit a guided group in California’s Sierra Nevada, and one person remained missing. Six others were rescued Tuesday evening from the Castle Peak area northwest of Lake Tahoe after crews fought heavy snow, whiteout conditions and dangerous avalanche terrain.
