Eight Arrests Made During Anti-Immigration and Counter Protest in Brighton
Sussex Police said the arrests followed clashes between a 300-person anti-immigration rally and a 4,000-strong counter-protest.
On Saturday, approximately 300 'Stop The Boats' protesters faced around 4,000 counter-protesters from 'Carnival Against Fascism' in Brighton City Centre, prompting a significant police response.
South East Patriots organized the anti-immigration march, with Raise the Colours co-founder Ryan Bridge attending to show support before his arrest during the confrontations.
Sussex Police made eight arrests during the clashes, ranging from assaulting emergency workers to public order offenses and possession of pyrotechnic articles.
Chief Supt Adam Hays said, "Public order policing is complex, and while we understand this can be frustrating, we balance the rights of all protest groups and the wider community."
Bella Sankey, leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, stated, "We utterly reject the hatred and division of the far-right." Her condemnation reflects official opposition to the march.
