Is Greece in the middle of a new refugee crisis?
Greece wants to use tough measures to deter refugees from entering the country by sea from Libya. Large numbers are arriving on the island of Crete, but not on the same scale as in 2015.
Since the outbreak of the conflict in Sudan in April 2023, more than one and a half million people have found refuge in Egypt, the main host country for the fleeing Sudanese. A new situation that pushes reception capacity to its limits. UNHCR, the United Nations agency for refugees, has recently crossed a record threshold: one million asylum applications registered in the country, with an overwhelming majority coming from the Sudan.
