EFCC, Immigration Service Deport 192 Foreigners Convicted of Cybercrime in Lagos
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said 192 foreign nationals convicted of cybercrime were deported after a major crackdown on an international fraud syndicate.
- The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission , alongside the Nigerian Immigration Service and Nigerian Correctional Service, completed the deportation of 192 foreign cybercriminals in Lagos State, ending a months-long crackdown.
- A December 10, 2024 EFCC sting at Oyin Jolayemi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos resulted in the arrest of 759 suspects who were later convicted by the Federal High Court in Lagos.
- Investigators found the syndicate operated identity theft and cyber-enabled Ponzi schemes, and many convicts trained local recruits and managed fraudulent digital platforms.
- Phased repatriations began with a first batch of 42 convicts on August 15, 2025, and ended with the final batch of 51 convicts including 50 Chinese nationals and one Tunisian on October 16, 2025.
- The multi-country makeup of the group highlights the cross-border reach of the fraud networks uncovered, and authorities said their removal disrupts an international cybercrime syndicate defrauding investors.
