The opening ceremony of the European Capital of Culture (ECC) begins today in the Finnish city of Oulu. The opening festival will feature around 200 events, from concerts to ice hockey, from acrobatics to panel discussions, from pub quizzes to art exhibitions. It will take place in more than 20 venues in the city centre and will conclude on Sunday.
