Eby says Doerkson a Conservative 'Trojan horse' as B.C. campaign wraps
Eby says Doerkson may not stay leader as Elections BC prepares to hand-count ballots on election day.
On Friday, NDP Leader David Eby described interim Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson as a "Trojan horse," citing extreme elements within his party as the final day of campaigning concludes before Saturday's provincial election.
Eby expressed regret over the snap election, acknowledging British Columbians were "surprised and frustrated" by his decision to go to the polls two years early to address a "stalled" legislature where the NDP held a one-seat majority.
While Doerkson rallied Thursday in Surrey with former premier Christie Clark and Surrey mayor-elect Doug McCallum, he has remained unavailable to reporters for the third consecutive day.
Elections BC confirmed that votes cast Saturday will be tallied manually, departing from 2024's electronic tabulation due to "short time frames and complex operational logistics of a snap election."
Eby suggested that Doerkson may not remain the Conservative leader after the election, cautioning that voters may not fully understand what they are getting with his current leadership.
