The Salvation Army Mobilizes Disaster Response Ahead of Hurricane Isaias
The charity is staging meals, water and cleanup supplies with partners as trained crews prepare to serve communities facing flooding and outages.
As Category 3 Hurricane Isaias approached the Gulf Coast on Friday, emergency organizations mobilized for a landfall expected overnight. Utility providers and relief agencies pre-positioned personnel to address projected storm surge, heavy rainfall, and widespread power outages.
Florida Power & Light deployed more than 12,000 workers across Northwest Florida to prepare for power restorations. FPL President and CEO Scott Bores established 16 staging sites to position crews near anticipated damage zones.
American Medical Response sent 20 emergency medical technicians and paramedics to Florida to assist with patient evacuations. The United Cajun Navy deployed water rescue teams and land-based search units for immediate post-landfall support.
The Salvation Army and American Red Cross are mobilizing nationwide resources, with over 40 volunteers already positioned between Mississippi and Florida. Emergency vehicles are being deployed to the Tallahassee area to provide meals, shelter, and emotional support.
Leveraging experience from past disasters like Hurricane Matthew, communities across the region are bolstering response efforts. Casey Neumann, community disaster program specialist for the Sandhills Chapter, noted that volunteers are coordinating across multiple service lines to ensure comprehensive support.
