Early Voting in June Primary Draws First Wave of People at Polls
More than 228,000 voters have already cast mail ballots as Democrats account for about 81% of returns, officials said.
Six days of in-person voting began today at 10 a.m. across polling locations for the June 2 primaries, with early voters reaching nearly 1,000 by afternoon at Spartanburg County's elections office.
Federal races are driving the surge, with Democratic U.S. Sen. Cory Booker's Senate seat open alongside all dozen House races, while four Republicans vie to challenge Booker in the November general election.
More than 228,000 people voted using mail-in ballots through Thursday, with close to 81% identifying as Democrats; voters can cast ballots at any polling location in their home counties.
Voters can access sample ballots and use the state's online locator to find polling sites, with the voter guide on the elections page offering race information, an election calendar and district locator.
November's general elections will determine congressional control for the next two years, with competitive Democratic primary races including a dozen candidates in an overwhelmingly Democratic district and four Democrats fighting for nomination elsewhere.
