The state on the chair for hours, without any time off, could matter more to health than was thought. A study of over 91,000 people shows that each additional hour of prolonged sedentary lifestyle was associated with a 9% higher risk of cancer death.
The study, conducted with data from more than 91,000 people in the UK, found that every extra sedentary hour in periods of at least 30 minutes of uninterrupted sitting was associated with a 9 percent higher risk of dying from cancer. The researchers pointed out that dividing sitting time with light physical activities can reduce the risk.
