Dzofilm Arcana Delivers 2x Anamorphic Character From a 1.5x Squeeze at Under 700g
The 32mm, 45mm and 75mm T2.1 lenses weigh about 700 grams and are built for handheld and gimbal workflows.
- On Monday, DZOFilm introduced the Arcana series, a collection of 1.5x hybrid anamorphic prime lenses for full-frame cameras offering filmmakers "the waterfall bokeh and horizontal color flares of 2x glass" without heavy weight constraints.
- DZOFilm designed the Arcana series to solve handling issues common with wider squeeze ratios, using a custom elliptical aperture to minimize "anamorphic mumps," or the "fat face" effect, while ensuring consistent squeeze.
- Each lens in the series weighs around 700 grams, with 32mm, 45mm, and 75mm primes available for $1,099 each or $2,899 for a three-lens set, a roughly $400 discount compared to purchasing separately.
- Compatible with PL-mount and mirrorless systems via adapters, the lenses support Ronin 4D LiDAR autofocus; DZOFilm says the second batch will "ship progressively" before May 30 on a first-come, first-served basis.
- DZOFilm will display the Arcana series at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, running April 19–22, where the company will also preview its Arles Zoom series with specifications to be announced.
