DWP confirms major payment change for thousands on benefits
Hundreds of thousands of claimants will be paid early, with Universal Credit, Child Benefit and PIP among the benefits affected, the DWP said.
The Department for Work and Pensions has confirmed that benefit payments scheduled for Monday, May 25, will arrive early on Friday, May 22, to ensure claimants receive funds before the Spring Bank Holiday closure.
This adjustment marks the second schedule change this month, following similar modifications for the Early May Bank Holiday on May 4, as officials routinely shift dates when payment dates coincide with public holidays.
Affected payments include Universal Credit, State Pension, Personal Independence Payment , and Child Benefit, which the DWP manages through fortnightly, four-weekly, or monthly distribution cycles.
Financial experts advise recipients to budget carefully, as the gap until the subsequent payment will be longer than usual. "Knowing when payments will arrive helps households manage their budgets, especially around busy bank holiday weekends," a DWP spokesperson said.
Although standard schedules resume after the May 25 holiday for England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, regional deviations persist, with Scotland observing a bank holiday on June 15 and Northern Ireland marking a holiday on July 13.
