Ducks Face Texas in Lone Star Showdown with College World Series Trip at Stake
Texas defeated Oregon 11-3 in Saturday's Austin Super Regional opener at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, giving the Longhorns a 1-0 series lead in the best-of-three matchup.
Seeking their first College World Series appearance since 1954, the Oregon Ducks entered the Super Regional after sweeping the Eugene Regional, while Texas hosted the series at home.
Recording 10 strikeouts over 5.1 innings, Texas sophomore pitcher Dylan Volantis dominated the Oregon offense, while the Ducks finished 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position and left 17 stranded.
On Sunday, Oregon must win Game 2 to extend its season. Head coach Mark Wasikowski said, "We didn't execute well enough with runners in scoring position."
A winner-take-all Game 3, if necessary, is scheduled for Monday, June 8, with the victor advancing to the College World Series in Omaha. Texas holds a 24-10 all-time Super Regional record.
