DOTD steps up mowing to reduce roadside fire hazards

MINDEN, La. -- Recent wildfires across Europe and several western states are serving as a reminder that fire conditions can develop almost anywhere, including northwest Louisiana.

Dry ground, winds increase fire hazard

Fire departments across the county are urging residents to be cautious this time of year as drier weather coupled with strong winds can cause an increased risk for fires. Crews with the Columbus, Scammon and West Mineral were busy Sunday afternoon battling a blaze along K7 Highway north of Columbus.
