Drones ‘mitigated’ during recent security events, Irish police say
Police say new counter-drone systems have been effective at recent events as they prepare a layered security plan for the visit.
Irish police are enhancing security ahead of President Donald Trump arriving in Ireland on Saturday, establishing a comprehensive protection plan to monitor and mitigate unauthorized drone flights.
Security concerns regarding drone technology intensified following an attempted attack in August at Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany, coinciding with Ireland's ongoing presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Deputy Commissioner Paul Cleary said the Garda have "invested heavily in the latest counter drone equipment and training," with a multi-layered security plan involving the Defence Forces and the Secret Service.
While Gardaí are investigating a drone sighting near Dublin reported by an aircraft, Cleary noted that recent security systems have performed "very effectively" and drones remain a "potential threat."
Commissioner Justin Kelly conducted "an extensive threat and risk assessment for the whole visit," while authorities maintain temporary no-fly zones in areas including Clare to protect the security event.
