Doris Jean Jackson, age 79 of Brookville

Doris Jean Jackson, of Brookville, was born on March 11, 1947, the cherished daughter of James Oscar and Ada Hensley (nee Gibson). She attended Liberty High School and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree. On June 10, 1965, she married Robert “Bob” Jackson, and together they raised two wonderful sons. Doris was employed by the U.S. Government within the Department of Defense for more than 30 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, especially making soups, and hosting cookouts where she always made sure everyone had plenty of leftovers to take home. She also enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, including Law & Order: SVU, westerns, and anything featuring Angela Lansbury. Most of all, Doris cherished spending time with family and friends and spoiling her beloved canine companions. If the truth were known, she may have loved her canine companions just a little more than anyone else. On Monday, August 24, 2026, at the age of 79, Doris passed away peacefully at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Doris leaves behind her two sons, Scott Jackson of Brookville, IN, and Steve (Christine) Jackson of Gambrills, MD; one grandson, Nicholas Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends its appreciation and gratitude to all who were there for Doris and her family, especially Charles Grant, Debbie Hensley, Carol Byrd, and her two loving sisters, Nancy and Edith. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband of more than 55 years, Robert “Bob” Jackson, and six siblings. In keeping with Doris’ wishes, cremation was chosen and a graveside burial will be held on Tuesday, September 8 at 11 a.m. at Sims-Brier Cemetery. Memorial contributions in honor of Doris may be directed to the Friends of the Franklin County Humane Society.
