DoorDash Launches App Paying Couriers to Train AI
- On Monday, Uber, DiDi, and DoorDash said fares will increase while offering short-term driver support in Australia, as fuel costs rise.
- After recent supply disruptions, concern has grown following six cancelled oil shipments to Australia and Iran's actions affecting the Strait of Hormuz, while the AAA national average gas price hit $3.96 per gallon, 35% higher than a month ago.
- DoorDash detailed that U.S. drivers with a DoorDash debit card will earn 10% cash back on gas and receive weekly fuel payments from $5 to $15 for long-distance deliveries, with Canadian drivers eligible for up to $36, between March 23 and April 26.
- Passengers will now face higher fares as companies add charges for rising fuel costs, while drivers in rural and suburban areas become eligible for cash support starting Monday, welcomed by Transport Workers Union national secretary Michael Kaine.
- Through late April, DoorDash said its relief measures and payments will remain in effect until April 26, and a related program until April 30; it is unclear if rivals will match as GrubHub monitors gas prices, and DiDi added a five-cent-per-kilometre surcharge.
