- On Monday, President Donald Trump shared a fabricated endorsement attributed to Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington on his Truth Social account, reposting a claim that Washington called Trump a "great friend and an even better president."
- Washington's publicist, Alan Nierob, confirmed to the BBC that the story is a "100% complete fabrication," after fact-checkers had debunked the quote circulating for months before Trump reposted it.
- Federal Election Commission records show Washington donated $28,500 to Barack Obama and $27,000 to Hillary Clinton; the actor previously told reporters "none of your business" regarding his political support.
- Trump's account has previously shared false claims, including fake AI-generated images of Taylor Swift and a fabricated endorsement from JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon; the quote has also been falsely attributed to Matthew McConaughey and Mick Jagger.
- As Republicans face potential losses in the House, this social media activity coincides with a midterm election blitz; a Pew Research Center survey found 30 percent of adults approve of Trump's performance, while 68 percent disapprove.
