Gisele Pelicot Urges Accused Rapist to ‘Take Responsibility’
Dominique Pelicot denies coercion as one convicted man appeals, claiming entrapment; 46 men were found guilty in the nearly decade-long abuse case, court heard.
- On Tuesday, the Nîmes Appeal Court heard that Dominique Pelicot, 72, drugged his ex-wife and invited strangers to abuse her between 2011 and 2020, receiving a 20-year sentence.
- Using sedatives, Pelicot crushed sleeping tablets and anti-anxiety medication into his wife's food and recruited men through online chatrooms, admitting he told one he had drugged her.
- Last year's trial established that 46 men were convicted of rape, two convicted of attempted rape and two convicted of sexual assault, supported by more than 100 photographs and video evidence described in court.
- One appellant argues that the 44-year-old appellant is appealing a nine-year sentence, claiming he felt trapped and saying he believed Ms Pelicot had consented as the verdict looms Thursday.
- On Wednesday, Gisèle Pelicot, 72, told the court that she never gave consent and confronted the appellant, while national rallies in France highlighted sexual violence.

Giselle Pellico, a French woman who was raped unconscious by dozens of men for years, told a court today that she never consented to the abuse and that no victim should be ashamed.

Pelicot tells rape appellant she 'never' gave him consent
Gisele Pelicot has testified in the appeal hearing of the only man contesting his conviction of raping her in the presence of her husband. She told the man she never gave him consent and accused him of cowardice.
The seven-year-old faced the only defendant who appealed his conviction for aggravated rape on Wednesday. Prior to his speech, 44-year-old Husamettin Dogan had reaffirmed that she had gone to the Pelicots' home on 28 June 2019 for a "libertine plan".
