The President of the Czech Republic awarded him the Medal for Merit to the State in the Field of Sports. The canoeist who made Nymburk famous all over the world has added another award to his rich collection of titles and medals. In total, President Pavel honored 48 individuals.
"Each of them deserves respect and admiration. They were able to serve something higher than themselves, not for one moment, one election period, but for their entire lives," said President Petr Pavel in the Vladislav Hall of Prague Castle during the traditional presentation of state awards. "They show that perseverance, effort, bravery, humanity and humility are not surpassed virtues. That we have someone to follow and someone to inspire us."
The highest Czech state decoration, the Order of the White Lion, was awarded by President Petr Pavel at a ceremony at Prague Castle to five individuals, one more than last year. The order was awarded in memoriam to two soldiers and the long-time chairwoman of the State Office for Nuclear Safety (SÚJB) Dana Drábová, as well as actor Zdeněk Svěrák and tennis player Martina Navrátilová.
