'Your Bones Will Not Remain Intact': DMK MLA Arrested After Alleged Threat to CM Vijay
Police said TVK members filed the complaint after Markandayan’s speech at a Karunanidhi birth anniversary event, and a heavy deployment was made to maintain order.
On Monday, Thoothukudi District Crime Branch police arrested Vilathikulam DMK MLA Markandayan for remarks considered "derogatory" against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay during a public meeting in Kovilpatti on Saturday.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam members lodged a complaint on Sunday after the legislator's speech, prompting police to register an FIR under BNS sections 351, 352, and 353.
Authorities detained the legislator in Authoor, about 23 km from Thoothukudi, before transferring him to the Superintendent of Police office for inquiry led by DCB inspector P Janaki.
DMK deputy general secretary Kanimozhi Karunanidhi termed the action "high-handed" on X, alleging the government is using police to suppress political opposition.
The arrest mirrors the recent detention of DMK MLA Anitha Radhakrishnan in Thoothukudi over similar remarks against the Chief Minister, as heavy police deployment remains in the area.
