DJ Ariana Van Tongerloo founded collective for safer nightlife, "but it feels like mopping with the tap open"
With the collective Burenhinder, DJ Ariana Van Tongerloo strives for a safer nightlife, with safer spaces and volunteers who keep an eye on things. But the recent scandals about rape in the nightlife do not always make it easy to keep going, she says. "Some club owners simply do not care about sexually transgressive behavior."
DJ Ariana and six colleagues draw up a list of measures for safer parties: “What we propose is the minimum, right?”
They’ve had enough of the stories of spiking, sexual harassment and bars where even bartenders can’t be trusted. Together with six other DJs, Ariana Van Tongerloo (25) is drawing up a modus operandi to keep their events as safe as possible. The ambition is for every club to follow their measures. “Too patronizing? What we propose is the minimum.”
