Disney+ gets HDR10+ through “over 1,000” Hulu titles

Over 1,000 Hulu titles now stream in HDR10+ on Samsung TVs, with more Disney+ content planned to enhance high dynamic range viewing.

  • In an announcement from Samsung today, Disney+ began streaming movies and shows in HDR10+, with Samsung saying over 1,000 Hulu titles now support HDR10+ on Samsung TVs.
  • After Disney's consolidation of Hulu into its app, Disney+ can offer a limited number of Hulu titles in HDR10+ because Samsung TVs do not support Dolby Vision.
  • Samsung detailed which models qualify, saying HDR10+ support covers Samsung Crystal UHD TVs and above from 2018 onward, including OLED, The Frame, QLED, and Micro RGB, while Apple TV 4K and Amazon Fire TV cannot yet stream Disney+ HDR10+.
  • Samsung says the upgrade will deliver brighter highlights, deeper contrast, and richer colors on Disney+, but other users are stuck watching from the sidelines as Disney+ has not confirmed wider rollout.
  • Analysts note the move could accelerate HDR10+ adoption, as industry observers say it may prompt more platforms and TV makers to adopt the royalty-free HDR10+ standard supported by Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV.
