Seventeen people have died in Niger State, Nigeria, due to a diphtheria outbreak. Health Commissioner Murtala Bagana announced that 124 cases have been detected in the Bida, Suleja, and Shiroro districts, with 103 patients discharged. With over 42,000 cases and nearly 1,400 deaths recorded in the country between 2022 and 2025, the WHO has confirmed a second wave of the outbreak.
