Vargas' Two-Run Homer in 10th Inning Gives White Sox 4-3 Victory over Tigers

On Friday, Miguel Vargas hit a two-run homer with two outs in the 10th inning to lift the Chicago White Sox to a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers, scoring automatic runner Drew Romo.
Trailing 2-1 in the ninth, the White Sox tied the game when Rikuu Nishida bunted; Andrew Benintendi scored on an errant throw by Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson.
Dillon Dingler hit a two-run homer in the third for Detroit, and Zack Short capped the Tigers scoring with a sacrifice fly in the 10th; Vargas also drove in Chicago's first run with a third-inning double.
Chicago reached a season-best 30-27 record with the victory, while Detroit fell to 0-5 in extra innings this year; the Atlanta Braves lead baseball at 39-19.
LHP Anthony Kay will start for the White Sox against LHP Framber Valdez of the Tigers in the second game of the series.
