Denmark's Queen Margrethe admitted to hospital
The 86-year-old former monarch will stay under observation over the weekend after the court said she was tired but in good spirits.
Queen Margrethe was admitted to Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen on Thursday "this afternoon due to angina," the Royal House in Denmark announced.
The 86-year-old abdicated in January 2024 after reigning for 52 years in the Scandinavian country, ceding the throne to her eldest son Frederik.
Despite facing multiple health problems in recent years, Margrethe, 86, recently attended Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf's 80th birthday in early May.
The Royal House said the Queen will remain in hospital over the weekend for observation and further examinations, adding that "Her Majesty is tired, but in good spirits."
Beyond her reign, Margrethe maintains significant artistic interests, having illustrated Tolkien's works and translated Simone de Beauvoir's "All Men Are Mortal.
