Democrats Sweep Michigan’s Three Competitive U.S. House Races
The wins give Democrats a 9-4 edge in Michigan’s congressional delegation after victories in all three competitive House races.
Democrats swept all three competitive Michigan House races on Tuesday, shifting the state's congressional delegation from a Republican majority to a 9-4 Democratic majority.
Before the election, Michigan's congressional delegation consisted of six Democrats and seven Republicans, with 13 House seats up for election and three races designated as competitive toss-ups.
Democratic state Sen Sean McCann defeated incumbent Rep Bill Huizenga in the 4th Congressional District with 50.1%-48.3%, while William Lawrence beat incumbent Rep Tom Barrett in the 7th District with 51%-47.7%.
Prosecutor Christina Hines won the open seat against Michael Bouchard with 52.4%-45.3%, contributing to Democrats' newly-secured control of the House.
Republicans secured four House seats as the Democratic sweep finalized Michigan's new 9-4 delegation balance, marking a significant shift in the state's congressional representation.
