Democrat Bob Brooks flips Pennsylvania House seat
Brooks led by more than 30,000 votes as the Associated Press called the race, capping a campaign focused on working-class roots and Trump opposition.
On Tuesday, Democrat Bob Brooks defeated incumbent Republican Ryan Mackenzie in Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional District, with the Associated Press calling the race for Brooks around 10:30 p.m. with a lead of more than 30,000 votes.
Brooks, a union leader and retired Bethlehem firefighter, campaigned on his working-class background while tying Mackenzie to President Donald Trump, whose approval rating in the district had fallen to 37%.
With 80% of votes counted, the election results proved more decisive than previous razor-thin margins; Mackenzie had ousted former Congresswoman Susan Wild in 2024 by only 4,000 votes.
Addressing supporters at the ArtsQuest Center in South Bethlehem, Brooks declared, "Tonight, the Lehigh Valley made history and sent a firefighter to put out the dumpster fire in Washington," vowing to shake up the status quo.
Brooks outlined four legislative priorities for his term in the U.S. House of Representatives: banning congressional stock trading, ending corporate PAC money, implementing term limits, and releasing the full Epstein files before taking office in January.
