Delta worker dies at Orlando International Airport, officials say
Delta said operations paused while investigators responded, and one departure was canceled as the Federal Aviation Administration said no aircraft were involved.
On Thursday, May 7, a Delta Air Lines employee died at Orlando International Airport after an aircraft towing vehicle, known as a "tug," struck a passenger boarding bridge.
The Orlando Police Department is investigating the fatality and describes the death as "accidental" in nature, while the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed no aircraft were involved in the incident.
Following the incident, Delta paused operations at the station, resulting in the cancellation of one flight; passengers on Delta Flight 2593 deplaned via the rear door and airstairs.
Delta stated it is "focused on extending our full support to the family" and emphasized that "safety is our number one core value" while working with investigators.
The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority expressed condolences, stating the "MCO community is deeply saddened" by the loss of the team member from one of the airport's airline partners.
