Defense Department rejiggers list of recognized religions after backlash narrows it to 30
After eliminating about 180 faith groups from its list of recognized religions, the Department of Defense moved quickly to revise the list once again last in response to criticism from various religious groups.
The U.S. Ministry of Defense has removed 180 codes of religious affiliation. Soldiers now have a choice of only 31 categories, 22 of which are Christian. The omission of the Mormon Church causes turmoil.
