Father of A66 teen charged with funeral assault
Gye Worthy faces assault and public order charges after police were called to the disrupted service for his 17-year-old son, Cole Worthy.
Gye Worthy faces charges after a disturbance disrupted his son Cole Worthy's funeral at Teesside Crematorium in Middlesbrough on Wednesday.
Cole Worthy, 17, died alongside four others during a head-on collision involving a Volkswagon Passat and a police car on the A66 in South Bank in August.
Matthew Blades, 37, and Tom Clough, 38, were police officers killed in the collision; both funerals took place on the same day as Cole's service.
Worthy was arrested at Teesside Crematorium during the disturbance and charged with common assault, a public order offence, and obstructing police.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct investigates the fatal crash, while Worthy is due at Teesside Magistrates Court on October 2.
