Cyclone Montha Landfall in Andhra Pradesh: Storm to Weaken Into Deep Depression Before Noon

Cyclone Montha caused destruction to 38,000 hectares of standing crops and triggered landslides in Odisha, disrupting normal life across 15 districts, officials reported.

  • Warnings intensified as INCOIS issued a red alert for 15 districts with wave heights of 2.9 to 5.2 metres, advising suspension of nearshore activities.
  • The IMD bulletin of 7 a.m. projects Montha will keep cyclonic-storm intensity for the next 6 hours then weaken into a deep depression during subsequent 6 hours, with orange alerts for heavy rainfall in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema districts.
