Cyclone Alfred a 'practice run' for south-east Queensland buildings, report finds

A new report from James Cook University has found aspects of buildings in south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales would become vulnerable to winds only slightly higher than those experienced during ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred earlier this year.

During the cyclone season 2025, up to 20 hydrometeorological events are planned in the Pacific and 17 in the Atlantic.

A new report has found that thousands of homes and high-rises in south-east Queensland are at risk the next time a cyclone approaches.
