Vos became the first rider to win a second elite women’s gravel world title after soloing clear in the final 4 km, officials said.
On Saturday, Marianne Vos made history, becoming the first rider to win a second elite women's gravel world title with a solo victory at the UCI Gravel World Championships in Nannup, Western Australia.
Elite women faced a demanding 125.6km course with 3,179m of climbing through Western Australia, with 85% of the route on gravel; the Dutch squad maintained multiple riders in the front throughout the race.
After rolling with Rosa Klser for 21km, Vos launched a powerful attack in the final 4km. Klser crashed after hitting a rut on the descent, allowing Vos to solo away to the rainbow jersey.
Klser recovered to finish second, 27 seconds behind, while Larissa Hartog outsprinted Nele Laing for third place. The victory brings Vos' tally to 15 rainbow jerseys across four cycling disciplines.
The event marks the fifth edition of the UCI Gravel World Championships, with Vos stating, "I was really happy when the World Championships were announced here, and it's a fantastic course here in Western Australia.
