CVS Health medicated wipes recalled over child safety concerns
More than 75,000 packages were recalled after regulators said the wipes contained lidocaine without child-resistant packaging, raising poisoning risks for young children.
On Thursday, July 2, the Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled over 75,000 packages of CVS Health Medicated Hemorrhoidal Wipes due to a poisoning risk caused by missing child-resistant packaging required for lidocaine.
The CPSC explained the recall is necessary because the wipes contain lidocaine, a substance legally required to be sold in child-resistant packaging to prevent accidental ingestion and serious harm.
Diamond Wipes International, Inc. manufactured the wipes in 20-pack quantities for around $16, featuring a CVS Health logo and labels reading "Rapid Pain Relief" and "Medicated Hemorrhoidal Wipes."
Customers who purchased the wipes between April 2020 and April 2026 can return them to CVS Pharmacy stores for a full refund; meanwhile, remaining packs must stay out of children's reach.
The lack of child-resistant measures created significant risk; small children faced greater danger of serious harm or death if they ingested the wipes, making the recall essential for child safety.
