The courts are considering whether they're even legal under U.S. law, and the American economy has yet to feel the pain of higher prices.
Canada's decision to respond to U.S. tariffs earlier this year seems to be creating a difference in the treatment that President Donald Trump is giving to North American neighbors. Until this week, Canada and Mexico received a similar treatment in the White House's trade actions. Both were subject to a 25 percent base tariff, with a wide exemption for goods shipped under the North American Free Trade Agreement, known as T-MEC (USMCA).
