Cumberland to celebrate 40th anniversary of the Miners Memorial

Miners face some of the toughest work environments. Coal caverns are cramped, wet, dark and dirty. And a constant fear looms over. A roof can suddenly collapse, and flooding is common. If that isn’t enough, coal seams could expel gas, which could cause an explosion from something as simple as striking a rock hard enough to create a spark.
