- The Carnival ship diverted course immediately and reached the stranded sailors, two couples from Australia, Germany, and Italy, about five hours later during its eight-day cruise from Sydney.
- Carnival confirmed that the four individuals and their three dogs were rescued and brought aboard the Carnival Splendor, where they are being provided with food, water, medical care, and cabin accommodations for rest.
- After the rescue, Carnival Splendor resumed its voyage to Vanuatu and New Caledonia, with the rescued travellers expected to disembark in Noumea.
