Cruise Ship Crew Member Dies Off the Coast of Cancún, Princess Cruises Says
Princess Cruises said search efforts involved Mexican authorities and the nearby Carnival Jubilee before the crew member was declared dead.
On Monday, July 13, 2026, a crew member aboard the Regal Princess died after going overboard in waters off the coast of Cancún, Mexico, prompting an urgent search and recovery operation.
The 3,560-passenger ship, operated by Princess Cruises, was in the midst of a seven-day Caribbean sailing that departed Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on July 11 before the incident occurred.
Search-Tracking data showed the 142,229 gross ton ship turning off course Monday to conduct search operations, with assistance from the Carnival Jubilee before resuming its voyage.
Princess Cruises confirmed the death and is providing grief support to those affected, noting that foul play is not suspected in this tragic "situation," the cruise line stated.
The vessel has resumed its voyage and is expected to arrive in Belize on Wednesday, followed by a rescheduled port call in Cozumel on July 16 and a return to Florida on July 18.
