Crows Are So Smart They Can Identify Geometric Shapes, Study Finds

Crows have a sense of geometric intuition much like our own, a new study reveals.

It's not just humans who can do anything with geometric shapes. Crows also recognize unique shapes in a range of geometric shapes, gravitating to regularity, consistent features like squares, as opposed to the irregularities seen in, say, diamonds. Crows are the first animals to be shown to have these qualities.

Researchers from the University of Tübingen in Germany have found that crows can identify an “atypical” shape in a set of identical geometric shapes and notice geometric patterns, writes ScienceAlert. The study involved two Black Raven birds aged 10 and 11 years. In the experiment, the birds demonstrated their existing abilities — scientists did not teach them anything new.
