Search of Manitoba Landfill for More Remains of Slain Women Concludes
MANITOBA, JUL 17 – The search followed family and Indigenous leaders' demands and used $40 million in funding to recover remains of two murdered First Nations women at Prairie Green landfill.
- The investigation at the landfill located just north of Winnipeg to recover the remains of First Nations victims Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran officially concluded on July 9, 2025.
- The search began in December 2024 after Harris and Myran were killed in 2022 by serial killer Jeremy Skibicki, whose convictions include their murders and those of Rebecca Contois and Ashlee Shingoose.
- The Prairie Green Landfill, which is privately operated, became the site where partial human remains identified as belonging to Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran were discovered in February 2025, leading to continued recovery operations.
- Premier Wab Kinew expressed gratitude as Morgan and Marcedes were brought home, with private ceremonies involving their families and the search team taking place on July 14 and 15.
- The province stated that search efforts will resume at the Brady Road landfill, with appropriate tools and a dedicated team being deployed there to locate Shingoose’s remains, demonstrating a sustained commitment to the investigation.
