Court Allows ICPC to Show Selected CCTV Footage in El-Rufai’s N10bn Suit
Justice Chigozie Onah limited each side to 20 minutes of CCTV clips after the ICPC said full public viewing could expose sensitive security details.
- On Friday, the Federal High Court in Abuja approved the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission's request to play selected CCTV footage in the N10 billion fundamental rights suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
- El-Rufai had filed an application for complete, unedited recordings, arguing that the ICPC's submissions titled "The Scuffle," "The Son Being Taken Away," and "Unauthorised Entry" failed to show the full context of his detention.
- Justice Chigozie Onah rejected the request for the entire recording, ruling that each side would have 20 minutes to present relevant footage in open court to protect sensitive security information.
- Additionally, the court denied the request to cross-examine ICPC officials, including Chief Anti-Corruption Assistant John Uche, explaining that fundamental rights cases are determined through affidavit evidence.
- A definite hearing is scheduled for Nov. 3 at 1pm, when both parties will present their selected evidence in open court before the substantive applications are decided.
