Ashok Anand took 61.4% of votes and defeated INC rival E. Vinayagam by 8,482 in a 11-candidate contest.
All India N.R. Congress candidate Ashok Anand won the Thattanchavady Assembly constituency by-election in Puducherry, defeating Indian National Congress candidate E. Vinayagam by 8,482 votes.
Chief Minister N. Rangasamy triggered the bypoll by choosing to retain Mangalam after winning two constituencies in the April Assembly election, vacating Thattanchavady.
Polling took place on Tuesday, October 6, across 31 stations with an 80.81% turnout; Anand's victory margin was nearly twice the 4,441 votes by which Rangasamy previously won the seat.
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate K Sethu, also known as Sethuselvam, finished third in the 11-candidate field with approximately 12.2% of the vote.
AINRC party workers celebrated the decisive win by distributing sweets and waving flags, as Anand secured around 61.4% of the 21,756 total votes cast.
