Houston City Council denies CenterPoint Energy rate hike that would wipe out savings from rate settlement
The electricity rate increase would add about $2.22 to the average residential customer’s monthly bill, while the gas increase would come out to an additional $2.88. The rate increase would wipe out savings from a recent settlement between CenterPoint and Houston-area municipalities.

Houston officials have denied a CenterPoint Energy’s Distribution Cost Recovery Factor rate application, while a Gas Reliability Infrastructure Program is currently in discussions on March 26.
Council votes to continue with Alliance of Centerpoint Municipalities, rate increase under gas reliability program
On Tuesday, March 18, the Mount Pleasant city council and Mayor Tracy Craig voted to pass resolution 2025-4. This resolution will suspend the effective date proposed by Centerpoint Energy Resources, which would increase rates under the gas reliability infrastructure program for 45 days, and allow the city’s continued participation in a coalition of cities, known as the ‘alliance of Centerpoint municipalities’.
